Lebanese singer Walid Tawfiq has announced that he has cancelled previously scheduled tours around Europe and Canada in solidarity with Iraq. The singer said that after the US and Britain called war on Iraq, he could not find it in his heart to sing or hold any form of entertainment.
According to the London based daily, Al Hayat, Walid stressed that all Arab singers should stand by the side of their Iraqi brothers and support them in their time of need. He strongly opposed the US attack and regarded it as ruthless and unjustifiable.
Walid added that he is currently working with Lebanese composer Samir Safeer on a new song "Lam El Sham" (Reuniting once more), calling on all Arab countries to stand as one. The singer noted that the song is his gift to the Iraqi people assuring them that all Arabs support them and their cause and wish them victory over the enemy.
On a different note, Tawfiq had decided late last year to move to Cairo temporarily for the preparations of his new movie. The name of the movie was not revealed, due the fact that no name has been given to the film. Walid’s intense occupation with the film, led him to make a complete transition for his family and enroll his children in private schools in Cairo until he is finished.
Walid had recently released two new songs from his latest album; the first “A’An Amar Hubak” (If Your Love Demands) is written by Baha El Din Mohammad and composed by Salah Al Sharnoobi. The second is “Ma Fi Hada” (There is No One Else) composed by Walid himself under the supervision of the Egyptian director Jamil Ghazi. –Albawaba.com
