ALBAWABA - Tom Cruise receives Navy's highest civilian honor for contributions spotlighting service members in films.

The United States Navy has acknowledged Tom Cruise for "his outstanding contributions to the Navy and Marine Corps" and has bestowed upon him the highest civilian distinction that the Navy has to offer. Cruise is best known for his fictitious portrayal as Top Gun, the most renowned character in the world.

The actor received the Distinguished Public Service Award on Tuesday during a ceremony in London. Through his work in films such as Top Gun, Born on the Fourth of July, A Few Good Men, and the Mission Impossible film trilogy, Tom Cruise has successfully increased "public awareness and appreciation for our highly trained personnel and the sacrifices they make while in uniform," as reported by the Associated Press. The navy has expressed its gratitude to Cruise for his contributions to the film industry.

Cruise made the statement, "I admire all of the servicemen and women." I am aware that one of the things I have learned in life, which I hold in high regard, is that to lead is to serve. I am fully aware of this fact. I can see that in the men and women who serve in the military.

Cruise made his comeback in 2022 for the sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. Following in the footsteps of the original film, the sequel was a commercial triumph and grossed about $1.5 billion worldwide. This made it the second highest-grossing picture of 2022 and Cruise's highest-grossing film in his extensive career.

Maverick "brought nostalgia to older audiences and reinvigorated the minds of newer audience members," as stated by the Navy. This effectively addressed a younger audience's interest in finding out more about the skill sets and opportunities that the Navy can bring.
