Egyptian actress Sawsan Badr is fighting back against criticism that she's "indecent" in her new role in TV drama, 'Khurm Ibrah' (Needle Eye). But this time it's not her clothes or her manner that has viewers up in arms: it's the way she speaks.
The drama is set in a blue collar neighborhood of Cairo so Sawsan and co-star Amr Saed play their characters using ordinary slang talk. For Sawsan, it's a way to make the production a little more gritty but it's definitely not the style that most audiences are used to.
It's gone so far that the actress has had to put out a statement to say she is not trying to "disrespect" anyone by speaking in 'street-talk' on the show.
