ALBAWABA - Samuel L. Jackson dropped the first signal that the MCU would be bigger than anybody had anticipated.
At the conclusion of Iron Man, the actor made his debut as Nick Fury, who informed Tony Stark that he had joined a larger world.
Within his nine-picture pact with Marvel Studios, this was the first feature for Jackson. In his interview with GQ, the actor expressed his surprise at the transaction and his luck in seeing it through to completion.
There was a nine-picture pact, Jackson said. According to Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige, "We're going to offer you a nine-picture deal." In order to create nine films, how much longer do you need to live? Compared to other processes, it takes a very long time. I had no idea they would release nine films in a span of around 2.5 years. That's rather bizarre! I am rapidly depleting my contracts, man. It turned out well.
Jackson has returned for other Marvel features, such as Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and The Marvels, even though his original nine-picture pact with Captain Marvel ended. He was also the main attraction in Disney+'s Secret Invasion series.
That's quite a number of Marvel films, but Jackson told The Los Angeles Times in 2022 that he would rather pursue his passions than seek recognition. "The Academy Awards have never been a yardstick for me as an actor," Jackson said. "Am I satisfied with what I'm doing? That's how I measure success." Movies about chasing statues are not my thing. [Insert whisper] "If you make this film, you'll be an Oscar winner." Sorry, but no. Personally, I'd want to be Nick Fury. Alternatively, I could assume the persona of Mace Windu, wielding a lightsaber.
"As spiteful as I wanted to be about it—you know, thinking, 'Well, I should have won an Oscar for this or should have won for that and it didn't happen,' once I got over it many years ago, it wasn't a big deal for me," Jackson remarked. Going to the Oscars is usually a positive time for me. Every time I present, I eagerly anticipate receiving a gift box. [Laughs] My wife and kids would raid my closet for treasures, and I'd give them to them. Man, that's awesome.
