Syria's state news agency SANA said that one of the country's top comedians has died following a battle with an illness.
Najah Hafeez, 84, passed away at the Ibn al-Nafees hospital in Damascus on Sunday. She was buried the same day but no further information was released about her illness, according to the AP.
Also known by her stage name Fatoum Hees Bees, Hafeez starred in major roles since the 1970s alongside Duraid Lahham, another of Syria's most prominent comedians.
Hafeez rose to fame for her role in "Hotel Sah el-Nom," in 1974, in which she and Lahham fall in love, but he fails to marry her.
Najah Hafeez was married but had no children.
