It was widely reported in international media last week that Barbadian beauty and international celebrity Rihanna had made a political statement on Palestinian statehood during a recent concert in Tel Aviv.
Rumours abounded that instead of singing the original lyrics to her song "Pour It Up", Ri Ri had substituted in some pro-Palestinian vibes.
Instead of “All I see is signs / All I see is dollar signs,” she subbed in “All I see is Palestine,” and kept on shouting out “Tel Aviv!” in every song -– but never once said the word Israel, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported last week -- clearly in a grump with Ri Ri over her alleged pro-Pal musical protest.
However, as footage of the Tel Aviv concert emerged, it seems that Ri Ri did NOT make an Palestinian statement -- she didn't even change her "Pour It Up" lyrics at all!
Sparking an all-out internet controversy, it seems that Ri Ri is sticking to her role as pop star instead of becoming a protester for peace.
A non-story
So Rihanna didn't make a statement on Palestine during her song and it was all a Haaretz rumour -- but judging from the angry backlash from those commenting on articles suggesting she did, it would seem that the validity of the Israeli state is dependent on the green light from Ri Ri. Well, she is fabulous...but don't hold your breath!
Still, it looks like Rihanna couldn't care less about the political sandstorm she's kicked up in the Middle East -- she's now onto her next thing, posing naked with snakes!
