Police officials seeking Midhat Saleh

Bad luck and lawsuits are clouding over a number of Egyptian singers.

Tamer Husni is currently serving a one month jail sentence for forgery, while Egyptian singer/actor Midhat Saleh is on the run from police officials seeking to arrest him so that he may serve a two-year jail sentence.

Years after a dispute between Saleh and belly dancer Fifi Abdo erupted, a Cairo court ruled in favor of Fifi, who charged that Midhat had wrote her a bad check for half a million Egyptian pounds.

Fifi filed the complaint against Midhat in June 2002 after he refused to refund the money she had loaned him.

The singer had appealed the ruling, but it was denied.

Midhat told the court that he did not take the money from Fifi as a loan, but instead it was an investment by her in his new recording studio. Midhat added that every investment has the possibility of loss or gain, and that he should not be obliged to cover Fifi's losses.

On a different note, Salah’s engagement is no longer a secret, after he wore a silver engagement ring during one of his live concerts at the Cairo Opera House.

Midhat had been trying for a long time to keep his engagement away from the public eye, especially since his finance is not from the entertainment world.

During the concert, a fan walked up on stage and congratulated him on his engagement. He thanked the fan and said jokingly that he hopes it will be the last time.

Midhat has been married three times.  His first wife was from outside of the entertainment world, his second, prominent actor Summaya Al Ulfi, and his third, actor Shireen Seif Nasr.
