The Oscars paid tribute to the legendary late actor Omar Sharif on Sunday.
While Sharif's openly-gay grandson Omar Jr. was thrilled by the Academy Awards's recognition of his grandfather's contributions to both Hollywood and Egyptian cinema, he was just as excited about another artist being recognized by the Academy, British singer Sam Smith.

After Smith won his first Oscar for Best Original Song for his Bond theme, "The Writing’s On The Wall," Sharif tweeted, "Ma boy!!!!! @samsmithworld #Oscars2016 I love you! Marry me!!!!!"

What a shame that Smith has taken time out from Twitter. But if he hadn't, would Smith - who is also gay - have responded to Sharif's loving tweet?
