After his return to Cairo from Dubai, Egyptian actor Nour El Sherif agreed with director Khaled Yousif for the leading role as one of Egypt's great leaders in the new film "Ana Wal Musheer" (Me and the General). The film revolves around the life of one of Egypt's greatest leaders Jamal Abdel Nasser and his relationship with Egyptian general and Field Marshal Abdul Hakim Amer, Egypt's first Vice President.
According to the UAE based daily, Al Bayan, the director has not yet found an actor for the role of Amer. Rumors had it that Egyptian actor Ahmad Zaki was to play the role of Amer, but the actor denied the news saying he was never given such an offer.
Scenes for the film will be shot early August after countless disputes with the family of Amer and the Egyptian censors over a number of scenes which were considered too controversial. The screenwriter of the film Mamdouh Al Laithi was forced to delete a number of scenes from the original script that dealt with former actress Berlintly Abdul Hamid.
The film is the first of its kind in Egyptian history that holds two different possibilities for the ending. The first is that Amer had committed suicide and the other possibility is that he was murdered.
Amer was Egyptian General Commander of the Armed Forces in 1967; member of the Free Officers' group that toppled King Farouk in 1952; chief of Egypt's armed forces and vice president during the 1967 war; after the war was accused of conspiring against Nasser, was arrested, and was said to have committed suicide, or perhaps was murdered
On a different note, The Abu Dhabi satellite channel has announced in a press conference that Syrian actor Ayman Zeidan who has been the presenter of the game show Waznak Dahab (Your Weight in Gold) for the past fifteen months, will be replaced with Nour El Sherif.
Nour had commented that he looks forward to the new experience, a first in his acting career, hoping that he will be able to accomplish a similar success to that of Ayman. Nour added that it is an important factor of any actor’s career to take on new challenges. –Albawaba.com
