The FX animated series Archer will no longer be referring to its spy agency as "ISIS," due to the fact it is the name of the real militant group in Syria and Iraq. They've called the fictional spy agency ISIS since the show started in 2010, but they recently decided that it was no longer appropriate.

The creators told The Daily Beast they removed it "quietly," and that they didn't do it sooner because they thought the news about ISIS as a real militant group might go away. They have since realized that ISIS will not be disappearing from the news any time soon, so the creators decided to merge the former ISIS group with the CIA in the show to get rid of the original name.

While the show will no longer use the name from this point forward, they will not be changing the name for existing episodes, as FX still has ISIS merchandise that they need to get rid of. Creator Adam Reed said his father no longer feels comfortable wearing his ISIS hat in public, as people don't realize it's a reference to the show. The Season 6 premiere with ISIS removed from the show was shown at the San Diego Comic-Con in July. The new season will air on television sometime in early 2015.
