ALBAWABA - The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has her first Instagram account since 2020 as she begins the new year.
The Associated Press confirmed on Wednesday that @meghan belongs to the Duchess of Sussex family. A black-and-white video of her at the beach, dressed in white, sketching 2025 in the sand on a cloudy day, is her first post. Over 200,000 people follow the account already.
Meghan, a former member of @KensingtonRoyal, which also featured Harry's brother, Prince William, and his wife, Kate, the Princess of Wales, tied the knot in 2018. In an indication of their increasing detachment from the royal family, Meghan and Harry created their own account, @SussexRoyal, a year later. Meghan and Harry shut down @SussexRoyal around the time they announced their departure from their official positions in 2020.
Known primarily for her role in "Suits," Meghan maintained a substantial Instagram following and made a commitment to return. In a 2022 interview with The Cut in New York Magazine, she revealed a secret. I will return ... on Instagram.
At other times, she expressed reluctance to return to Instagram due to concerns about harassment. Meghan and Harry called on social media companies to improve their content-moderation guidelines in 2023, claiming that certain apps can harm youth mental health.
Meghan Markle is making a spectacular start to the new year. The Duchess of Sussex returned to Instagram on Wednesday, January 1, with the name @meghan.
Before the account was deleted in January 2018, just after she became engaged to Prince Harry, the duchess had posted many events from her life under the handle @meghanmarkle. Following their resignation as senior royals, the duke and duchess stopped using the Sussexes' official royal Instagram account, @sussexroyal. However, it appears that she is prepared to share intimate moments once more as her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, is about to launch.
Marie Claire shares a video that she knows Prince Harry took at a nearby beach near their Montecito, California, home. The video shows Meghan running across the sand, dressed in all white. She stoops to write "2025" before laughing and leaving the scene.

After acquiring the @meghan handle, Marie Claire reported in August 2023 that the duchess was purportedly returning to Instagram. However, the authenticity of the account remained unclear, and a year after its creation, she hadn't posted anything until today.
