The famous music show ‘Taratata’ aired a special episode last week, featuring six guest music artists, including Iraqi singer Kathem Al Saher.
The show is rapidly becoming the talk of the season.
Al Saher rarely grants interviews, but in this case journalists were able to speak with him in a personal manner, even watching the rehearsals.
Al Saher said that the episode of ‘Taratata’ is an episode to support all rising music artists.
Beside Al Saher there were two other Iraqi singers, Muhannad Muhsin and Shatha Hasoon, along with Ghada Rajab from Egypt, Shahad Barmada from Syria and Lebanese singer Nawal Al Zoghbi.
Nawal performed her famous song “Aghla Al Habayeb” (Best Loved) at the rehearsal and when she finished Al Saher gave her a warm welcome. The two singers performed the song “Hatha Al Loun” (This Color) together.
According to the London daily Elaph, on the show, Al Saher was asked why people unite when it comes to choosing a music artist, but they disagree on politics.
“People should never dismiss the importance of politician’s roles, since they face very difficult decisions and they need God’s help to lead them on the right path,” replied Kathem, adding that they do sometimes change the facts.
“When it comes to music, people use their hearts” continued Kathem. He said that musicians show people that they care, and then the singer becomes one of the people. This is why Kathem’s fans know that he is honest with them and respects them.
Kathem never thought of becoming a politician, yet he believes he is an ambassador for the Iraqi people, to convey their fears and worries. He also wants to introduce the talented people of Iraq to the world, to show the beautiful face of the Iraqi people and to erase the images of war and destruction.
“I try to look good while singing with my musical group because we represent Iraq,” said Kathem.
The Iraqi singer is disappointed with his video clip “Madinat al Hob” (City of Love). He was not present when the final stages of the clip were made. It is hard to change the image of his destroyed city Baghdad to make it look beautiful and hopeful, said Kathem.
His favorite clips are those filmed with famous Egyptian actor Hanan Turk and Syrian actor Solaf Fawkhrji.
Kathem Saher is considered by many as a very gentle and caring person.
