ALBAWABA - Disney dismissed Jonathan Majors only hours after his domestic violence conviction, throwing the Kang-based MCU plotline into disarray.
Only now has it emerged that Robert Downey Jr., previously cast as Tony Stark, will play Doctor Doom instead of Kang, the original adversary.
After Marvel officially confirmed Robert Downey Jr. as the next villain for the franchise—stepping away from his Kang the Conqueror character—Jonathan Majors expressed his grief.
On Tuesday, we had the chance to speak with the actor in West Hollywood, and he shared his mixed feelings about the RDJ Dr. Doom story. According to him, Dr. Doom's entrance into the MCU is fairly great, but he really enjoyed portraying Kang, so it's understandable that he's disappointed by Marvel's decision to refocus their efforts.
Several fans felt that Jonathan's ban from the MCU was an unduly harsh punishment, despite his conviction for minor assault and harassment but without any jail time.
Fascinatingly, RDJ served time in prison in the 1990s on a variety of charges, including drug possession, driving under the influence, and carrying a hidden weapon in a vehicle with a previous conviction. Later, in 2015, then-California Governor Jerry Brown pardoned the Oscar winner in full.
Even though he was the target of many disturbing accusations, such as grooming and harassment, Ezra Miller, who portrayed Barry Allen/The Flash in the DC Extended Universe films, remained in his heroic role.
