Fans of the cult classic Beetlejuice (1988) have been eagerly waiting for a sequel for decades, and now their wish is finally coming true.
Filmmaker Tim Burton confirmed in November 2023 that the Beetlejuice sequel, titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, had finished filming and was set to release in October 2024, just in time for Halloween.
The sequel will reunite the original cast members, including Michael Keaton as the mischievous ghost Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder as the gothic teenager Lydia Deetz, Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as the deceased couple Adam and Barbara Maitland, and Catherine O’Hara as the eccentric Delia Deetz. The plot will follow the characters 36 years after the events of the first film, as they face new challenges and adventures in the afterlife.
Burton also revealed the official poster for the sequel, which features a close-up of Beetlejuice’s face with his signature striped suit and green hair, along with the title and the tagline: “The wait is almost over”. The poster has already generated a lot of buzz and excitement among the fans, who expressed their anticipation and nostalgia on social media.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is expected to be a dark comedy with a lot of visual effects and musical numbers, similar to the original film and the Broadway musical adaptation. Burton said that he wanted to honor the legacy of the first film, while also adding his own creative twist to the sequel. He also praised the cast and crew for their dedication and passion, and thanked the fans for their support and patience.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will hit the theaters on October 31, 2024. Don’t forget to say his name three times!
