At the 49th Annual AFI Lifetime Achievement Award Gala in Hollywood, California, on Saturday night (April 27), a number of Hollywood heavy hitters converged to honor Nicole Kidman.
The evening at the Dolby Theatre belonged to the 56-year-old Hollywood superstar. Morgan Freeman, Reese Witherspoon, Joey King, and Miles Teller were among the stars who attended the event with her, along with her ex-lover Keith Urban.
As a recording of "Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend" played, Kidman walked onto the stage dressed in a golden gown, prompting a standing ovation from the crowd.
Morgan Freeman appeared in a video that mocked Nicole Kidman's recent advertising campaign for AMC Theatres, which encouraged people to go back to the movies after Corona. The video was the first item on the program. To some extent, it alleviates the pain of a location like this, Freeman said in the video.
At the Dolby, Freeman went on stage to congratulate Kidman, who had also received an AFI Life Achievement Award in 2011, on her achievement. He gave Nicole's 2001 musical "Moulin Rouge" a shout-out as a masterpiece.
"How wonderful life is when you're in this world!" He sang the phrase from an Elton John song as he ended his address.
In a similar vein, Naomi Watts pondered her time with the woman she refers to as "the sister she never had." She gushed, "She is tall, elegant, very smart, and has the most infectious laugh I have ever heard." He paraphrased the description. "Nicole has always been the most generous person," she said, highlighting Kidman's unwavering support throughout her career's successes and setbacks.
