ALBAWABA - Harvey Weinstein is having emergency surgery days before his New York court appearance, according to TMZ.
On Monday, September 9, due to chest symptoms, the movie producer's lawyer confirmed to TMZ that his client underwent emergency cardiac surgery at New York's Bellevue Hospital from Rikers Island.
Prosecutors are aiming to get a fresh indictment against Weinstein, who was jailed at Rikers Island prior to his court appearance. This follows the overturn of his previous rape conviction in New York City in April.
Weinstein insists that his past sexual encounters were consensual and has denied the allegations made by over 80 women who accuse him of sexual assault.
The accused had previously requested to stay at Rikers Island, where he was undergoing medical treatment, and had appeared in court while using a wheelchair. This was before the health crisis.
Several health issues, including diabetes, hypertension, spinal stenosis, and fluid accumulation in the heart and lungs, landed Harvey in the hospital this summer.
He needed further medical attention after contracting COVID-19 and double pneumonia while in the hospital.
In April, the Oscar winner's lawyer Arthur Aidala told TMZ that his client's health problems were the result of a "train accident," adding that his client was in a Manhattan hospital at the time.
