Egyptian singer and all-around jerkwad Hany Shaker was hospitalised earlier today after injuring himself rehearsing for the the Jerash Festival.
According to the Egyptian Musicians’ Union, which Shaker heads, the singer was injured when he was mobbed by a group of rabid fans after rehearsal. The fans were so overwhelmed they, in turn, overwhelmed Shaker, who, undoubtedly singing “Mehtaglek” (“I Need You”) as he reached-out to his fans, slipped and injured himself, at which point he probably switched to “Enta el Sabab” (“You are the Reason”).
Love is blinding, probably. Or he's a jerk who blames stuff on others.
Allow us to remind that, in his role as Egypt’s Musicians’ Union President, Shaker, also undoubtedly circumventing conflict of interest, gets to decide who performers what in Egypt. He has made full use of this power to ban acts he deems against “public morals.”
This included one instance in which Shaker banned six female singers for acting “racy” in order to “deliberately stir instincts and desires,” which suggests that Shaker’s own music is torpid and stirs nothing but boredom.
The above is unrelated to the injury, but so hopelessly shameful it bears sticking to Shaker’s name forever.
