ALBAWABA - After its Halo-themed post, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has now turned to Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings in an attempt to recruit new ICE agents by quoting a touching scene from the beloved and award-winning fantasy franchise.
DHS took to X (formerly Twitter), quoting a popular scene between Merry and Pippin. The government-owned social media account wrote, recounting Merry's words, "There won't be a Shire, Pippin," followed by the ICE recruitment website.
The post garnered millions of views and thousands of interactions, but received mixed reactions from X users, stating that Home Security missed the mark by failing to understand The Lord of the Rings' plot and message.
A social media user responded to the post and wrote, "Babe, wake up! The DHS has moved on from Halo tweeting to LOTR tweeting."
From Halo to LOTR: DHS shares new ICE recruitment ad
Journalist Alyssa Mercante reached out to DHS and received a statement that read, "We will reach people where they are with content they can relate to and understand, whether that be Halo, Pokémon, Lord of the Rings, or any other medium."
Recently, DHS drew criticism for posting a Pokémon video of ICE agents "catching them [illegal immigrants] all," while the anime’s theme song played in the background. The video featured ICE agents arresting them and breaking into their homes.
The statement continues, "DHS remains laser focused on bringing awareness to the flood of crime that criminal illegal aliens have inflicted on our country. "We aren’t slowing down."
