Renowned Egyptian singer Hakim will appear next Tuesday before the court in Cairo. This comes after the testimony of two witnesses at the prosecutor general's office, saying that the Arab pop star had assaulted his wife in a furnished apartment at the aristocratic neighborhood of Azzamalek in Cairo.
According to the UAE daily, Al Bayan, witnesses confirmed that the singer had beaten his wife, Marwa Ibrahim, in front of the neighbors after a squabble between the two. The Prosecutor's Office later summoned the singer for further questions.
The trouble erupted after Hakim's wife had unexpectedly seen her husband at her friend's flat when she visited her on the upper floor of their building. The singer, who could not find a way to get out of the predicament, decided to beat his wife instead in the face as well as other parts of her body. Marwa filed a complaint at a Cairo police station accusing her husband of assault, after discovering the romantic relationship between him and her friend.
It is noteworthy to mention that Marwa, who is also a lawyer, has been behind many of her husband's problems, as she often expressed her resentment to his frequent dancing on stage with younger girls who always seem to be enthusiastic for his singing and music.
Last year, Hakim caused an international scandal when he kindled a crisis with the renowned British singer, Sting, who has a concert at the Pyramids. Hakim was slated to perform just before Sting at the "mega concert" at the Pyramids. However, for several reasons, Hakim showed up late and found out his set cancelled. In protest he got up on stage and made an impromptu speech about Egyptians being insulted in their own country. - Albawaba.com
