Fairuz, the original Queen of Arab music, celebrates her 79th birthday

One of the Arab world's most iconic singers celebrated her 79th birthday this week. Nouhad Wadi Haddad is the superstar's real name, however, she is only referred to as Fairuz by her fans.

Lebanon's Fairuz was born on November 21, 1935. She began singing at the age of five and her music is still the most commonly-played in cafes around the Arab world.

The "Kifak Inta" singer is amongst the most widely admired and deeply respected living singers in the Arab world.

Throughout the course of her 60-year career, the sensational singer gave her fans over 800 songs to playback to this day, in addition to winning both regional and international awards.

Fairuz has four children, Ziad Rahbani, Rima Rahbani, Layal Rahbani, Hali Rahbani, from her ex-husband Assi Rahbani, whom she married from 1954 to 1986.
