Lebanese diva Fairouz and her son Ziad Rahbani surprised their fans in the New Year, by the new album Wella Keef which constitutes a religious hymn along with spontaneous romance songs with eastern and western tunes.
Ziad who attempted to free the hymn Ya Merriam, new year’s surprise, from its religious nature remade it musically using an almost slow rhythm has developed it into a more or less a spiritual song or anthem, according to the Arabic daily Al Hayat.
Most of the new songs seem to belong to the modern genre, which Ziad chose to represent what might be described as Jazz spirit. This is due to the fact the new album did not include pure eastern songs similar to some songs, which were well marketed. Ziad used his known ways to blend eastern and western music in these songs.
He sought the help of some known cadences including the Brazilian Lapampa for the song La Wallah and Manaha De Carnival for the song Shoo Bkhaf and the cadence Cosma for the song Byithakkar Fi Al Khareef (He Remembers in Autumn).
But the cadences, which Ziad borrows from the international reservoir quickly become of his own with distinction due to his special musical touches and subtilized taste. This was evident in the hymn Ya Merriem which has acquired the Rahabani style.
Fairouz also performed some of her songs with delicacy, docility and spontaneity despite the fact that some tiredness was evident at the end of her song Tenthakar Ma Tinaad which was normal from a suffering and thriving heart. In the song Ana Fazaaneh (I am Scared), the singer who plays the beloved character expressed her state of getting tired with impossible love. This song appeared close to a certain extent to the script song, which elaborates in faltering, surrounded with admittance or disclosure.
Among the songs of the prominent singer were Shoo Bkhaf, Sabah Wa Masaa, and Byithaakkar Fi Al Khareef (He Remembers in Autumn). All these songs are characterized with sad, romantic and real love, which usually is not free of uncommonness or fantasy -- Albawaba.com
