Egyptian film trailer exceeds one million views on YouTube in its first week

The trailer for the upcoming Egyptian film The Other Land has garnered one million views on YouTube just one week after its release.

The film is set to premiere at the official competition of the 38th Cairo International Film Festival, and will later be released in Egyptian cinemas.

Directed by Ali Edries, The Other Land is about a group of young Egyptians who to try immigrate to Italy, escaping their underprivileged rural lives. Their journey is challenged by the treacherous sea, and their hopes for a better life are in danger.

The story is written by Zainab Aziz, who is working with director Edries for the sixth time, and stars Mohamed Ali, Bayoumi Fouad, Abdel Aziz Makhyoun, Mohamed Mohamed Mahran, Amr El Kady, Afaf Shoaib, and Hanan Soliman. Filming took place between Spain and Egypt.

According to MAD Solutions, the film's marketing company, Edries’ directorial debut was with Ashab Wala Business (Friendship or Business) starring Hani Salama, Nour and Mostafa Amar. He then went on to direct a number of box office hits including two films starring Adel Imam (Aris Min Geha Amneya -- A Groom from the Security Entity) and Morgan Ahmed Morgan.

Edries began his career as an assistant director, working on films that are by now Egyptian pop classics including Sa'eedi Fil Gamaa el Amrekeia (Sa'eedi in the American University), El Nazer (The School Principal), Toyour El-Zalam (Birds of Darkness), and El Noom fi el Asal.
