Dubai-based musician Glenn Perry's first rock album in two decades greets you with a blues song that is as vibrant as ever.
Blues for The Peace, an instrumental piece, opens new horizons for Perry who takes a step back in time to explore the genre that has produced legends such as B.B King, Muddy Waters, J.J. Cale, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page to name a few.
Showcasing his guitar skills, Perry plays some refreshing chops and licks in this heartfelt rendition, as the drummer Josh Dion and bassist Chris Morrissey provide a formidable wall of sound for the track.
The song has a '60s touch, but with a twist, as Perry infuses the composition with a modern, almost jazzy, sound. He reminds us that though blues belongs to a bygone era, it is as relevant in today's music as it was decades ago.
Music styles may have gone through a major upheaval, but blues is, and will, remain an important component of rock music is what he is trying to convey.
Perry's ample experience and creativity come to fore as he improvises with chords, and time signatures. Dion and Morrissey too show their prowess in the genre with blistering solos.
Blues for Peace was recorded in Manhattan New York. The single which was released in New York earlier this month, is available in the UAE on online stores CD Baby, iTunes and Amazon.
"In my own little way I want to make a difference. With my music I wish to restore peace in this shaken world," said Perry about what inspired him to compose the song.
