Celebrities flock to the Emirate in droves, it's had a starring role in Hollywood blockbuster Mission Impossible – and now Dubai's even gone and had a song named after it.
Dance tune ‘Dubai’, by Norwegian act Proglifter and remixed by Boxer and Forbes, was recently showcased by trance trio Above and Beyond – who headlined Dubai’s 2011 New Year Sandance festival – on their hit internet radio show 'Group Therapy'.
Proglifter, real name Richard Gjerdin, has never been to the Middle East but said the idea to name the tune ‘Dubai’ came to him while catching a glimpse of the emirate on TV show ‘Strip the City’.
“I love to call my tracks after something to do with nature or cities – and Dubai really is the city of dreams with its incredible engineering and structure,” said the 24-year-old music maker.
Proglifter describes ‘Dubai’ as a trance track with “good elements and a great rhythm”.
“I was focusing on the chords, which I really love, and the piano and pads,” he said.
“The atmosphere is very good and suits Dubai perfectly - as it is a city that floats.”
He described having ‘Dubai’ played on Group Therapy as a “milestone”.
“When notifications showed up on my facebook with ‘Dude, your remix was played on Group Therapy’, I was frozen in happiness – before jumping around in my apartment with my good friend Rino Wilhelmsen.
“We could not believe it.”
