Famous Columbian-Lebanese artist Shakira hosted a live concert for the New Year’s in Abu Dhabi, despite all efforts to have the concert canceled in support of the Palestinian people in Gaza.

The Columbian artist who is originally from Lebanon sang at the Emirate Castle Hotel and the concert lasted till the morning hours of the year 2009. There were thousands of fans that came to see the seductive singer and ticket prices varied between 100-300 American Dollars.

According to the London daily Elaph, the concert which was organized by an international company called “Flash”, was receiving great protests in order to stop it from happening. On the “Face Book” site an emirate had written that “Abu Dhabi can’t be celebrating the New Year’s while Gaza is bleeding.”

On the other hand the leader of Dubai prince Muhammad Bin Rashed Al Maktoom had requested the cancelation of all New Year’s celebration taking place in Dubai in support for the Palestinian people. Famous Arab artist like the Saudi singer Muhammad Abdoh, Iraqi singer Kathem Al Saher and Lebanese artist Nancy Ajram all had their concerts canceled in Dubai.

On a similar not, the Emirati Prince had canceled the concert for the famous Egyptian superstar Amr Diab, and then went back on his decision when Diab decided to donate all the money for the Red Crescent to help the wounded in Gaza. Diab has donated an equal amount of one million and a half American dollars.

It is needless to say that these cancelations come among the many cancelations that went on around the Arab world. Many artists had canceled their concerts in Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait.
