ALBAWABA - Game Freak's long-awaited title, Beast of Reincarnation, has received mixed reviews across the board, with reviewers citing immense potential that fell flat due to an average execution.
This didn't come as a surprise to many people, given Game Freak's notorious track record with its most recent Pokémon games. However, Beast of Reincarnation turned a lot of heads during its announcement at an Xbox Showcase in June 2025 for its stunning visuals, satisfying gameplay, and beautiful sound design and soundtrack.
IGN wrote in its 6/10 review, "This action RPG has some great ideas blossoming, but they can be hard to spot among the weeds." The reviewer added that the game "should feel great in theory," but falls flat when you spend time with it for its emotionless story.
VGC wrote in its 3/5 review, "Game Freak’s latest is an uninspired adventure, but one with great action and combat."
Other reviewers said that the game had a lack of enemy variety, performance issues, samey levels, and dry dialogue.
A user who purchased the game took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "Unfortunately, Beast of Reincarnation is a major disappointment for me. As a fan of the NieR series and Stellar Blade, I expected something more than copies of ideas I'm already familiar with. The world is bland and empty; most of the time, we're fighting the same mob enemies, and there are a small number of bosses. I recommend waiting for a significant discount."
Players who wish to play the game without shelling out $59.99 can play it on Xbox Game Pass. Beast of Reincarnation is also available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
