Renowned Syrian actor Bassem Yakhour was a busy man this year and the fruits of his labor will be on display during the Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan. Yahkour will star in four series this upcoming Ramadan. One of his most notable roles is in a groundbreaking new series for the holy month which is written by Khalid Khalifeh, directed by Hisham Sharbatji, and produced by the General Association for Television and Radio Production.
Bassem plays 'Masoud'", a law school student who drops out of college due to his poverty. He finds a job following up on paperwork, only to build an empire based on lies and manipulating the law in a way that does not put him under direct liability.
"Massoud" builds a fortune in partnership with his law school colleague "Firas", who tells him that there is no use in being a lawyer, and that what is taught in textbooks does not apply to the courts of law. They work together on commission, as well as finding loopholes in the private and public sector.
This series deals with corruption and its effects on the different segments of the Syrian society, highlighting how some abuse the law without any regard to moral or ethical laws.
As for his second series in Ramadan, Yahkour appears for the first time in front of the camera for director Rasha Sharbatji in her series," Daughters of Families", in which Bassem has a few scenes.
His third participation in Ramadan is in the series, " Hours of Fire" written by Samer Radwan and directed by Rasha Sharbatji. Yahkour acts as one of the main characters in the series " Abu Nibal", a man whom Yahkour described in a previous interview as being unstable.
Abu Nibal is an ex- officer with a lot of issues and he believes bloodshed is a way of life. At the same time however, he does have values; he hates infidelity and he seeks out justice but with his own violent style.
Yahkour also appears this Ramadan in the comedy" Old Flame", in the series entitled" Spotlight. He returns despite the criticism he received from the previous season for his role in the comedy series.
Bassem had previously declined an offer to work in the series " Al Amimi" which would have exposed him to the " Damascus Lifestyle", the series is directed by Tamer Ishaq. Bassem's excuse for not taking part in the series was that he wanted to concentrate on his role in the Egyptian series " Al Murafa'a" which has been postponed until next season.
