The Screen Actors Guild Awards, which honor the best performances in film and television, announced their nominees for the 30th edition on Wednesday.

The film nominations were dominated by two of the biggest hits of 2023: “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”. Both movies received four nominations each, including outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture, the highest honor of the night. They will compete against “Killers of the Flower Moon”, “American Fiction” and “The Color Purple” for the coveted award.

“Barbie”, a biopic of the iconic doll’s creator Ruth Handler, starred Margot Robbie in the title role and was directed by Greta Gerwig. Robbie was nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a leading role, while Gerwig received a nod for outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role.

“Oppenheimer”, a historical drama about the development of the atomic bomb, starred Cillian Murphy as the physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and was directed by Christopher Nolan. The film was hailed for its epic and immersive storytelling, as well as Murphy’s nuanced and complex performance. Murphy was nominated for outstanding performance by a male actor in a leading role, while Nolan received a nod for outstanding performance by a male actor in a supporting role.

The other individual film nominees included Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro for “Killers of the Flower Moon”, Jennifer Hudson and Forest Whitaker for “The Color Purple”, and Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand for “American Fiction”.

On the television side, the nominations were led by “Succession”, the critically acclaimed drama about a dysfunctional media dynasty. The show received five nominations, including outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series, as well as individual nods for Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin.

Other shows that received multiple nominations included “The Crown”, “Ted Lasso”, “The Handmaid’s Tale”, “Mare of Easttown” and “The Underground Railroad”.

The full list of nominees can be found on the official website of the SAG Awards.
