In a shocking turn of events, Syrian singer Said Jurdi won the latest edition of Ukraine Got Talent, Bitajarod reported.

Originally hailing from Homs, the young student left Damascus only two years ago to pursue a degree in medicine at the Simferopol State University. While he was out there, Jurdi decided to put his vocal talent to use and enter the famous singing competition.

Although Ukrainian isn't his native tongue, Jurdi sang beautifully and passionately in the Ukranian and Russian languages, which both shocked and impressed the show's judges and viewers at home.

Since his first audition, everyone was certain that this young man would go far in the competition. This week, he was crowned the new Ukraine Got Talent winner.

Jurdi isn't the first Arab to enter a non-Arab version of the Got Talent competition. In 2006, Moroccan-Algerian Salah The Entertainer won season one of France's Got Talent.

Congrats, Said, you really deserve the UGT title!
