Algerian director Ghouti Bendedouche’s film al Jar (the neighbor) won Sunday the grand award at the African Film Festival of Khouribga (Morocco).
“This award is also a tribute to Algerian directors, who, in spite of the difficulties gone through by Algeria, have continued to work,” the director told Algerie Presse Service (APS).
Bendedouche added that the festival was an occasion to get informed of the experience of other African directors present in Khouribga and to exchange views on this matter.
The director, who expressed his satisfaction and joy for the prize, hopes that the latter will be well distributed both in Algeria and Maghreb countries, especially in Tunisia and Morocco.
This award is the second one granted to Algerian cinema after that of 2000 in the same festival won by film “Lotus Flower” by director Amar Laskri. The latter was a member of the Khouribga jury.
