Abdel Halim Hafez's family is upset that the legendary late singer's famous hit "Sawah" was used in an Egyptian underwear ad.
The star's nephew, Mohammed Shabbanah, protested against the company in question, saying in a statement that "if the advert was one with a patriotic or meaningful message, it would have been okay to use my uncles's music."
He continued, "But to use it in an underwear advert, even through legal means, is completely unacceptable."
Shabbanah argued that a law must be imposed to protect the legacy of Egyptian legends, especially ones with a valuable history like Abdel Halim's.
The distraught nephew spoke to the Egyptian Music Syndicate's chairman, singer Hani Shaker, to express the dismay he feels by this.
Shaker is yet to comment on the matter.
