Video: 11 Injured in escalator accident in Turkey

ALBAWABA Eleven people were injured in an incident involving an escalator malfunction at the Uç Yol Metro station in Izmir. A video shared on social media by local news outlets shows the escalator reversing direction unexpectedly, causing several individuals to lose their balance and fall.

According to a report from the "Anadolu" agency, the incident occurred when the escalator, which serves as an exit route, reversed direction while several people were on it. This sudden change led to at least nine individuals falling from the escalator and sustaining minor injuries.

Emergency services transported the injured to local hospitals for treatment. The Izmir Municipality confirmed that the escalator malfunctioned and moved in the opposite direction, causing the accident.

A statement from the municipality indicated that the escalator has since been repaired and maintained. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the malfunction. The municipality emphasized that the safety of the metro station’s infrastructure is a priority, and necessary measures will be taken to prevent future incidents.

Local authorities are urging caution and vigilance when using public transport facilities and are working to ensure the safety and reliability of escalators and other equipment in metro stations.
