The man had defaulted on his payments for two years.

A man who bought a special mobile number from a resident but failed to fulfil the purchase agreement has been instructed to pay the seller Dh28,000.

Official court records revealed that the Arab man filed a lawsuit against the defendant after he refused to pay his money, despite taking away his SIM card with a special phone number for two years.

The complainant told the court that he owned a special phone number and wanted to sell it. The defendant approached him expressing his desire to buy the phone number from him for Dh25,000. He gave him an initial deposit of Dh2,000 and took the SIM card after promising to pay the balance in a short period of time. The complainant made the buyer sign an agreement committing himself to pay in time.

However, the defendant didn’t fulfil his promise. The man said that whenever he contacted the buyer to pay his balance, the latter would postpone the payment dates. Eventually, two years passed and the buyer even stopped answering his phone calls.

This forced the seller to take him to authorities to oblige him to pay his balance. He demanded that the buyer pay the balance of Dh23,000 and another Dh10,000 for the delay in payment and other damages he suffered.

In court, the defendant admitted to purchasing the man’s special phone number but denied refusing to pay his remaining balance.

After hearing from all parties, the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance ruled that the defendant pay the complainant his balance of Dh23,000 and another Dh5,000 in compensation for the damages.
