ALBAWABA - Seoul's local education office has recently unveiled an exciting initiative to introduce " English teaching robots " into elementary and middle schools. The objective of this program is to provide students with individual face-to-face conversations in English, thereby enhancing their language skills.
Developed in collaboration with a private company, these AI-based robots will closely resemble the ones commonly seen in restaurant service.
Starting in March next year, five primary and middle schools in the South Korean capital will be selected to participate in the trial operation of these English teaching robots.
The robots are specifically designed to engage students in one-on-one conversations in English, mimicking the experience of speaking with a native speaker. Not only will they act as assistant teachers in the classroom, but they will also provide personalized instruction, including individual pronunciation correction.

If this trial run proves to be successful, the local education office plans to expand the distribution of these English teaching robots in the future. This significant step indicates a promising future for incorporating advanced technology into the education system, revolutionizing the way students learn and develop language skills.
Moreover, the office intends to further integrate the use of voice chat applications in English teaching, particularly focusing on listening and speaking skills.
By implementing chatbot applications, which can be installed on mobile phones or desktop computers, students will have the opportunity to engage in free conversations with the software. This feature enables students to choose topics of interest and engage in non-face-to-face exchanges with foreign students, fostering global connections through language learning.
