ALBAWABA - The 52nd UAE National Day is getting closer now, it is on the 2nd of December. An Independence Day is surely a blessing. One's homeland holds a permanent place in the heart, so no matter where one ventures in the world, the longing for their country remains. Every nation globally designates a specific day to commemorate its Independence Day, and the UAE is no exception.
Brief history
On 2 December 1971, the leaders of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Al-Ain, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain took a historic step towards unification. With the wise guidance of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, UAE's first president, the United Arab Emirates was born. Shortly after, in February 1972, Ras Al Khaimah decided to join, becoming the seventh Emirate. Since then, the UAE National Day has been commemorated annually with exuberant celebrations throughout the Gulf nation.

Every country's flag holds significance, portraying unique meanings associated with the nation. It serves as the foremost symbol representing a country globally. The UAE flag, known as the Emirati flag, holds great importance as one of the nation's key symbols. In 1971, when the UAE was established on the global map, a competition was organized to design its flag. Numerous individuals participated in this competition, and only six finalists were chosen.
Eventually, the winning flag, which we see today with its four distinctive colors, was selected. The flag was designed by a talented Emirati named Abdullah Mohammad Al Maena. For his exceptional design, he was awarded AED 4000.
