Many of us struggle with the concept of letting go. Whether it is someone we once loved or something that we seem to be attached to, letting go is no piece of cake. However, no matter how attached we seem to be to something, sometimes letting go is the healthiest, most painful decision we can make.

And while for some letting go might be challenging, others might argue that it is not that hard for them to sever ties with someone. So where does the difference lay? And why does letting go seem to be difficult for some?

The fear of letting go of something or someone stems from the idea that holding onto something that is familiar gives a sense of certainty and comfort that many people desperately desire. And as letting go and moving on holds a lot of uncertainty, many would rather avoid the discomfort and just stick with what they have, even if it is unhealthy for them.

Not only that, but some can even hold on because they are afraid of having to experience past rejections again.

“Remember when you had no friends in high school? Better keep some of those unhealthy friendships around because otherwise you will end up with no friends.”

These thoughts and old ways of thinking might seem logical and even justifiable to some people and thus you can find them never willing to let go. However, regardless of why you are still holding on, learning how to let go is an essential part of leading a healthy, positive and proactive life.

Because the thing with being unable to move on is that we end up being stuck in an endless loop, oblivious to the fact that holding on to something or someone that no longer serves us means we aren’t giving space for new better things to come into our life.

So the question is do you still want to keep holding on to things that no longer serve you? Or are you ready to allow new extraordinary things to flow your way?!

If you are leaning towards the latter then here are some tips that can help you learn to let go:

- Identity self limiting beliefs and patterns

Acknowledging and understanding that certain thoughts such as, “no one will love me” or “I will always be alone” are not facts but are instead self limiting beliefs. And while breaking free from these beliefs might be hard, once you do you can completely transform your world.

- Take care of yourself

We all owe it to ourselves to take care of our body, mind and soul. Because here is the thing, if you do not take care of yourself, no one else will. By focusing on yourself, your values and what you really want, you will come to see the things and people that deserve for you to hold on to.

- Know your worth

Seeing yourself as someone who is worthy of good things is instrumental when it comes to letting go. Not only that but knowing what you deserve and your own worth will make you realize when you should let go of things that do not value you.

- Accept the facts

Accepting that certain people and things are not healthy for you is the first to realize that it is time to move on. Resisting facts and what is right in front of you will not change the reality you are living in.

- Forgive them and yourself

Letting go of someone does not have to be filled with resentment and fights. Understanding that someone is not good for you and your future, and forgiving them and yourself for any pain caused can make letting go easier.

- Take your time

This is your own story and you get to take your time in whatever you are facing. No one gets to tell you when or how you should heal, and therefore take your time with what you are feeling.

Letting go and learning how to move on will not happen in a day or two. It needs constant work and dedication to putting yourself first. By doing so, you are opening the doors for better things to come your way and the chance to write your own story the way you want it to be. It might be hard in the beginning but soon enough you will start to see how beautiful uncertainty can be!
