Approximately 30 centimeters (12 inches) of snow fell in Amman, Jordan, for the first major snowstorm the city and country have experienced this year. The snow started during the night of Wednesday, Jan. 26, and continued on into the next morning.
The snow brought much merriment for the residents of Jordan’s capital city who haven’t experienced this much snowfall in years.
But with the joy brought on by the snow also came problems for the city as trees, telephones poles and other structures buckled under snow’s weight. The snow is expected to melt over the next few days, however, as the weather forecast predicts rain and rising temperatures until Sunday, Jan. 30.
