Prosecutors said no one at her employer's home knew about the pregnancy.

Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance accused a housemaid with murdering her newborn boy.

The maid reportedly stabbed her newborn to death because she didn't know who the father was.

Official court documents stated that the woman, who was working for an Arab family in Abu Dhabi, got pregnant through an illicit relationship. She told authorities that she didn't know the man who impregnated her.

Prosecutors said no one at her employer's home knew about the pregnancy as she kept it a secret.

"The housemaid planned to get rid of the baby after she gives birth," a prosecutor told the court. "When she felt labour pains, she went to a nearby abandoned house and delivered the boy by herself. She then stabbed the baby with a kitchen knife to death."

The accused was caught by neighbours who notified the police. The prosecution charged her with engaging in an illicit relationship and murder.

The woman denied in court to intentionally killing her baby.

The defendant's lawyer said she allegedly suffered from mental problems and wasn't aware of her actions.

"During the pregnancy, the woman suffered from psychological problems fearing that her employers will know her secret," the lawyer told the court.

A psychiatric report presented to the court showed that the accused was normal and fully aware of her actions.

The trial was adjourned until May 29.
