A video that appeared to show a bitter public breakup between Egyptian TV host and her husband was revealed to be a hoax, Al-Arabiya reported.

Presenter Heba al-Zayed was discussing divorce trends on her show on the Egyptian channel LTC, when her husband apparently called her and divorced her for going on air without his permission.

Her husband asked her: “Why did you go on air [work] without asking my permission?” She the replies to him saying: “I only answered your call on air because I’m so afraid of you.” The call abruptly ends with him saying, “you’re divorced.”

Al-Zayed later told El-Wattan newspaper that the phone call was staged with the program's production team and her husband, to make a point about divorce for the show's topic.

She explained that the call was staged to express her views on divorce in a “practical way.”
