Reuters reports that an Uzbek nanny is on trial for beheading a child and waving the severed head at a Moscow metro station, claiming Allah had commanded her to commit the act.
On Monday, Gulchekhra Bobokulova, a 38-year-old nanny from Uzbekistan, allegedly murdered and beheaded a child under her care before setting the family's home on fire and fleeing the scene. According to Reuters, police found her wearing all black, waving the child's head in the air, and shouting Islamist statements.
Bobokulova told reporters on Wednesday that she had been commanded by Allah to commit the crime, but had repented.
When she entered the court for her preliminary trial on Wednesday, she greeted everyone by saying, "I am Allah's messenger. Hello everyone," according to Reuters.
While eyewitnesses claimed the act could be considered a "terrorist attack" and were afraid of accomplices and additional attacks, Russian investigators suggest the woman is mentally ill and acting alone.
