A special ‘Freedom Train’ carrying about 300 opponents to the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad arrived in Strasbourg on Tuesday to press their case for regime change at the European institutions in the eastern French city.

The train left Paris a day before a meeting of the so-called “Friends of Syria” group in Marrakesh, which is expected to focus on new moves to strengthen and legitimize the recently formed Syrian opposition coalition.

“We’re here to mobilize the European Union in general but above all the European parliament so there will be more advanced opinions towards the Syrian people. First of all as regards the recognition of the coalition of the opposition and of the Syrian revolution as the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people,” said Monzer Makhous the Syrian rebel movement’s ambassador to France.

After arriving at the station, the activists marched towards the city’s main theater, where they were due to stage an event before heading off to the European parliament.
