Educational publishing company Scholastic will be pulling one of its children's books from shelves this week when readership-and publishers-realized they "forgot" to include Israel in a map illustration, according to a CBS news report.
The book under criticism-Thea Stilton and the Blue Scarab Hunt, is part of the Geronimo Stilton series and tells the story of three sisters on a journey to Egypt to participate in an archaelogical excavation.
One of the illustrations used in the children's story includes a map of Egypt and the surrounding countries of Libya, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, but did not include any other countries.
Scholastic was sure to emphasize that it would be stopping shipment of this title and revising the map to account for the Israel "omission." According to the company's statement, "Scholastic is immediately stopping shipment on this title, revising the map, and going back to reprint. We regret the omission which was in the original version of the book published in Italy and was translated by our company for English language distribution."
It was not clear if the revision plans will include the other missing countries from the map...
