An Algerian TV news reader was sacked for saying the Algerian president's name without saying "His Highness" before it, according to local media reports.

According to al-Khaber newspaper al-Herri was reading an article about the president's meeting on national gas policy when he made the mistake that cost him his job.

A number of journalists and other presenters have expressed their solidarity with al-Herri, saying that his mistake was minimal and did not deserve to lose his job for it.

The newspaper also said that al-Herri was later appointed as a news editor in "Canal Algerie" after being removed from his position as a news reader.

President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has held the presidency office since 1999 and can serve an indefinite number of terms.
