Offenders involved in rotten rice sale in Barka will face lifetime deportation, two years in jail and fines of more than OMR80,000, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) has said in a tweet on its official twitter account .
On May 10, Times of Oman had reported that consumer protection authority in Barka has raided a major company for supplying rotten rice.
According to PACP, 22 tonnes of rotten rice bags were seized.
Following the raid, social media was abuzz with pictures of rotten rice naming a group.
However, on May 12, the traders uploaded a notice on its official twitter handle stating that it has never sold rice of this (rotten) quality, nor will it in future.
No information was available as to the identity of the people caught by PACP.
