Faulty living room lights were on Tuesday blamed for the deadly fire that claimed the lives of seven Emirati siblings in Fujairah’s Rul Dadna early on Monday.
Colonel Saif Rashid Al Zahmi, director of Dibba Fujairah Police, told Gulf News that the forensic laboratory at Fujairah Police investigated the cause of the fire that started in the living room and spread to other areas of the house.
“Lights were the cause of the fire,” he said.
The police have completed their investigations into the incident and referred the case to the public prosecution.
The house was handed over to the family on Tuesday, Col Al Zahmi said.
Major General Mohammad Ganem Al Kaabi, commander-in-chief of Fujairah Police, said they received the emergency call late, making it difficult to save the children despite arriving on the scene in record time.
Al Kaabi said the police received a call from the children’s mother at 5.40 a.m. reporting the fire and saying that her children were trapped inside.
Smoke quickly engulfed the house which prevented the mother as well as neighbors from rescuing the children.
Al Kaabi urged residents to install smoke detectors to avoid such tragic incidents. The smoke detectors save lives by warning residents to evacuate from villas when a fire breaks out, he added.
