A total of 2,300 Saudi women have filed lawsuits against their husbands here because of financial abuse related to the power of attorney they held over their assets.

The women claimed the men bought and sold property and were involved in other commercial activities without their permission, according to a report in a local publication on Monday.

This abuse caused them physical, psychological and social harm, many of the women claimed. The cases were filed with the courts and the Office of the Ombudsman.

Ryan Mufti, a lawyer, said the women could dissolve the power of attorney at the offices where it was issued, and would have to provide various documents as part of the application. He said most dissolutions were done by women.
