Sahar Fayyad, a Jordanian teacher, is among 50 teachers from 37 countries shortlisted for the Global Teacher Prize, according to Ammon News.
The winner will be announced at a ceremony in Dubai in March. The winning teacher receives a prize of $1 million in recognition of their dedication to their profession.
Over 20,000 teachers applied for the prize this year.
Fayyad teaches at Um Manih elementary school where she previously won the Queeen Rania Award for Excellence in Education in 2009 for her use of technology in the classroom, and for her work integrating Syrian students.
Last year the award went to Palestinian teacher Hanan al-Hroub.
