Saraya News reported that a female high school student invited HRH King Abdullah of Jordan to her prom – and he responded!

Social media users got swept into a royal riptide of 'say what' and 'seriously' and 'oh no he didn't!' as the rumor backed by posts of the plucky proposal circulated.  Visuals doing the rounds included an image of a greeting card and token gifts allegedly from the King.  The fact that the online Monarch had to decline the invitation did little to dampen the jubilant mood that this pupil's proposition aroused.

Jordan's royal followers and bystanders alike seemed to be humbled by the King's sporting spirit as word of his diplomatic raincheck spread Kingdom-wide. A state visit was surely an excuse this teen heart could swallow!

The King's card revealed that he wished he could attend but had to leave for a formal visit to Brussels. He congratulated the student on her upcoming prom and assured her that it would be great.  (We're sure she had a royal old time too!)

King Abdullah and Queen Rania are currently on a formal engagement in Belgium, after they received an invitation that they couldn't refuse – from King Philippe of Belgium! Perhaps our high school graduate should have aimed her sights a little closer to her generation – why not the son, Prince Hussein, who just graduated from Georgetown University in May, 2016 for her prince charming?
