In an ornate and elaborate wedding that can make the royal weddings in most other countries look like drive-through Las Vegas affairs, the youngest daughter of Indonesia’s sultan married in a three day event.
The Daily Mail reports that Sultan Hamengkubuwono X's fourth daughter Gusti Ratu Kanjeng Hayu, 29, married Kanjeng Pangeran Haryo Notonegoro.
The wedding was attending by 750 guests. In addition, over 1,500 people were invited for the reception that followed. After the Akad Nikah where the wedding was solemnized, the couple participated in the up by the Panggih Ceremony. The word “Panggih” means ‘to meet’.
The new husband broke an egg under his foot to symbolize that the couple are moving into a new phase of their life.

The ceremony concluded with the ritual of Pondhongan, which means ’to carry someone on one’s arms’. As part of this ritual, Hayu was carried by her new husband and father in front of the wedding guests.
This was only the second day of a three day wedding. But by all accounts, it was a very special second day.
The Muslim world has a proud tradition of throwing grand wedding, be it that of the daughter of the Sultan of Brunei or the wedding of Nour and Faisal in Dubai.
But a wedding doesn't have to be royal to make it grand. Songs, food, smiles (and did we mention food) can make any wedding extra special.
