A Palestinian man from Gaza said he was tricked into selling a Banksy mural painted on his door for the severely undercut price of $175 USD, the BBC reported.

The mural, done by the world-renowned street artist during a February trip to the war-torn Gaza Strip, depicts a weeping Greek goddess and is one of several pieces done as a larger, political statement by the artist on the rubble of last summer's Israeli offensive in the area.

Rabie Darduna told the BBC he was given less than $175 for the mural, which he sold to a man who came to his home and claimed to work for the artist. The artwork was drawn on the door of the Darduna family's dilapidated home, which is just one of thousands to be destroyed during the July air raids that killed more than 2,200 Palestinians.

Other pieces by Banksy have sold for hundreds of thousands. One mural drawn on the wall of a social club in the English city of Bristol sold for more than $590,000.

Darduna said his family is incredibly disappointed by the incident.

"Really, we're depressed. It's a matter of fraud," he said.

The man who bought the painting claims the transaction was legal, while the representative to Banksy has said the artist has requested the piece be returned to the Palestinian family.
